Just got back from HPB. And I thought I could put it off, huh.
Guess not. The story goes like this.
Last night, the bottom tooth flared up. At the time of blogging last night, it had already started to hurt. Didn't think much of it, until I tried to go to sleep. Surprise, surprise. I couldn't, since it hurt too much. And the painkillers didn't work. I even found some stronger ones, which didn't work either. It was frustrating, very frustrating.
But luckily, at about 3am, I managed to get to sleep. How? By rubbing crushed Panadol around the tooth. My dad said to do so, without any scientific explanation. So I didn't think it would work. But work, it did. It pretty much numbed the gums.
But gums were numbed, tooth still hurt. But somehow, I managed to fall asleep. Glad for that.
So anyway, woke up this morning, with the tooth still hurting. Couldn't take it, so I went to the HPB. Dentist said I have two choices.
One, is to extract the tooth. May cause some problems, for example, the tooth above might continue to grow longer without a tooth below to stop it. Meaning that it would cause problems to other teeth when I chew. I say "might", because there is a possibility that my wisdom tooth would grow into the empty space. However, problems would still arise. The wisdom tooth cannot possibly take up the whole space, so food may easily get stuck in between teeth. Also, the tooth above might already have grown longer, which would still cause problems.
The alternative, is to do the root canal treatment. Everything would return to normal, but the dentist said that it may not last forever. Extraction will have to take place, it's just when. All depends on your hygiene, the dentist said. Some people could keep it until they grew old, others, a couple of years.
I couldn't decide then, so the dentist said she would remove the infected area in the tooth and put medicine in it, which would relieve the pain.
It got quite painful a few times, even with like 6 shots of local anesthesia. Couldn't feel anything, except for the acute pain (which was worsened by the shock) every now and then.
So anyway, after it was done over with, the tooth began to ache again. Kind of expected though, but the dentist prescribed me painkillers after I told her that Panadol wasn't working for me. She said I'll probably have to take them for the rest of the day, and maybe tomorrow. But she didn't seem to think that I would have to take them on Wednesday. Hopefully she's right. =)
The painkillers had to be taken after food, so I went to eat a bun first. But, eating proved to be extremely painful. Because I just can't chew properly. So like every 3 bites, I would accidentally "completely chew", which meant that I would press down on THE tooth. Eating becomes a torture. T_T
Took the painkillers immediately after that, but they didn't seem to have much of an effect even after a while. Argh, I just hope that I'll be able to fall asleep today.
